What is a state-and transition simulation model?

Watch our 13 minute video introducing the state-and-transition simulation model (STSM) approach for projecting landscape change.

Getting started with ST-Sim: creating a simple non-spatial model

This tutorial will provide you with an overview of how to use the ST-Sim software to develop a simple state-and-transition simulation model.

Spatial models in ST-Sim

In this tutorial we learn how to take a non-spatial model (such as the model created in Getting started with ST-Sim) and transform it into a spatial model. You will learn how to run spatial models as well as how to create and edit maps of spatial outputs in ST-Sim.

Note that a copy of the ST-Sim library produced in the previous tutorial Getting Started with ST-Sim and used at the beginning of this Spatial models in ST-Sim can be found here. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to your computer and select File | Open Library... in ST-Sim to navigate to this Spatial models in ST-Sim.ssim file and select Open.

Adding spatial dynamics to ST-Sim

In this tutorial, we will import spatial initial condition raster files and simulate spatially explicit events by defining a size distribution for fire transitions in ST-Sim.

Note that a copy of the ST-Sim library produced in the previous tutorial Spatial models in ST-Sim and used at the beginning of this Adding spatial dynamics to ST-Sim tutorial can be found here. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to your computer and select File | Open Library... in ST-Sim to navigate to this Adding spatial dynamics to ST-Sim.ssim file and select Open.
